Every now and then one comes across a place—or an experience—which makes you wonder why you had never come across it before. One of these recent revelations is an oasis called Seven Oaks which lies close to Wolseley in the Breede Valley. This is the home of Seven Oaks Winery—Jacqui and Patrick Pols place-makers of some superb prize-winning wines, and their up and coming restaurant they call Salt of the Earth where a popup restaurant once a month serves fabulous food. If it all gets too much for you, book one of their cosy cottages and let it all hang out—just a little.
Two of the wines I really loved are the Chenin—packed with summer fruit supported by well-controlled acids and the bubbly they call Per l’Amore Andie—crisp and clean with a never-ending bead—heaven. And then there is their superb red blend Padre Red Nose—Merlot-Cabernet blend heaven.
So if you want to get away from real life for a while get yourself to Seven Oaks and get spoiled.
